An Invitation to Experience Metamodern Business in Emergent Action
The Meaning-Making and Sense-Making in the World
There is a common narrative that informs us we are in free-fall destruction of critical resources on this planet. Even if and when we manage to turn the tide, the question then becomes: “How much will actually survive to make anything worth the effort?”. This tale often leads us down the path of (1) paralysis: a state of game acceptance or (2) nihilism: a state of game denial and eventual breakdown in meaning-making.
Regardless, both games are zero-sum and trick us into believing we have no time left, and as we become entrenched in time-survival-mode, we act with less grace.
Take the zero-sum idea of recycling - As a first step, it is valid. As a final solution, it is but a lost cause. Even worse, a perfectly working zero-sum game, like recycling, cannot go beyond preserving what is left. The game rules are in-built: that we are never to reach 100% due to imperfection of the unattainable utopia, a place where nothing new gets made. Yet, new is what we need. See the problem?
So we panic: there is no time left, and we embark on short-sighted ventures and try to “innovate” by changing the establishments. We look to the past and set deadlines based on what we know and the degree of panic we are experiencing - good luck! This is not how Emergence works or is captured, and hence nothing shall come to pass.
A Radical Product Idea
Metamodern’s ultimate product idea is synergetic win-win. A game setup that grows more adaptively with time, and is not upper limited as a zero-sum game. A shift from scarcity in time to how to continuously extend towards unlimited time. Destruction is not a problem if we can reconstruct. We must reconstruct with profit faster than destruction can accumulate. It is no less complicated.
Remember Hanzi Freinacht: “The mantra of Metamodernism is: Reconstruction must follow deconstruction.”
The good news is: any reconstruction buys time for our species and the ecosystem. Reconstruction capability sets the compound interest rate that affects how much time is left in a species-ecosystem economy. Human reconstruction capability must continuously increase as an interspecies capability, working together with the natural reconstruction processes in the ecosystem.
A Noosphere Where Everyone Gets to Play
We are inviting co-conspirators to co-create and explore where each of the three business types: modern, postmodern, and metamodern has its sweet spot. And yes, their limits: how modern and postmodern businesses are not suited for some opportunities.
We will reimagine how Metamodern Business can be uniquely suited for tasks that require us to update and place the Modern Businesses’ unique power of mass production and Postmodern Businesses’ unique power of network effects into hard work.
As new business models dictate new rules of the game, we will reconstruct new power dynamics and relationships between actors that were once called investors, entrepreneurs, employers, employees, etc.
This event will start with a mingle, followed by workshops with different elements of co-creation. Afterward, we will all mingle and focus our attention on reflection, embodiment, and action - the key aspects of any business.
